Indications/Uses
Monotherapy & adjunctive treatment of partial seizures & primarily & secondarily generalized tonic-clonic seizures; seizures associated w/ Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Monotherapy Initially 25 mg once daily for 2 wk followed by 50 mg once daily for 2 wk. May be increased to a max of 50-100 mg 1-2 wkly. Maintenance dose: 100-200 mg daily. Bipolar disorder 100-200 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment. Monitor changes in hepatic, renal & clotting functions. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rashes; SJS; fever, malaise, flu-like symptoms, drowsiness, lymphadenopathy, facial edema & rarely hepatic dysfunction, leukopenia & thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced toxicity w/ carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarb & primidone. Inhibited by valproate.
